5 Tips for a Better Week (That You Can Learn From Your Dogs)

Self Development
There is a reason that people say dogs are man's best friend! They're so loyal, sweet, and fun-loving...I think we can learn a lot from them! If you have a dog or if you just love animals + you're looking for some tips for the week ahead, click through to read my tips!

Happy Thursday, y’all! This post is a little bit different than some of my others, but who doesn’t love an excuse to talk about puppies?? ๐Ÿ˜‰ I have two dogs, Biscuit and Dug, and they are always teaching me so much about life…if you’re a dog mom, you know what I mean! HA! I thought it would be fun to talk about all the things that our dogs can teach us, and how we can apply it in our human lives to have a better week. If you’re skeptical about what you can learn from a dog or you maybe just need a new form of inspiration, keep reading!

Focus on Loving Others

Dog’s are called man’s (and woman’s) best friend for a reason! They’re extremely loyal, sweet, and they are so good at unconditional love! It doesn’t matter what I’m wearing, what kind of day I’m having, how much I weigh, what hobbies I have, etc…my dogs love me the exact same amount each and every day. They just want to be around me, and the rest of that stuff doesn’t matter at all!

We should be the same way with those we come into contact with throughout our day. Let’s stop focusing on the differences between us and others, and instead shift our focus to loving them the way that they are! Trust me, when you spend more time loving than hating, your week will be filled with joy!

And it is my prayer that your love may abound more and more, with knowledge and all discernment, ย so that you may approve what is excellent, and so be pure and blameless for the day of Christ, ย filled with the fruit of righteousness that comes through Jesus Christ, to the glory and praise of God. -Philippians 1:9-11

Allow Yourself to Get excited

I’m sure that you’ve noticed by now how excited your dog is when you walk through the door, right? Ha! How could you miss it?? ๐Ÿ˜‰ We need to be the same way in our lives as well. So often, I find myself getting worked up and worried about things that I can’t control. I will find myself ALMOST getting excited about something only for fear to chase that feeling away.

Let’s be like our dogs!

Instead of worrying about what’s to come an hour from now, two days from now, or a month from now…let’s put our trust in God to do what is right for us and lead us in the right direction. Let’s make that conscious effort to get excited and jump for joy!

Forgive and Move on

Have you ever gotten frustrated with your dog and maybe yelledย just a tiny bit? ๐Ÿ˜‰ It happens! Now, how long does it take before your dog runs over and licks your face afterwards? Not long at all in my house! Dogs don’t hold grudges!

One of the quickest things to steal my joy is being upset with someone else, and I bet it’s the same for you too. Anger is a fog that keeps us from being able to truly enjoy the beauty and relationships around us. It robs us of the joy that God wants for our life, and it keeps us from setting a good example of what it means to be godly women!

If you’re upset with someone this week, give that over to God. Let him give you peace, and MOVE ON. ๐Ÿ™‚

Stop Making Excuses

Dogs always seem to be dirty. Ugh, just thinking about it makes me feel the need to vacuum my floor! Ha! It’s not the best quality that pups have, but their constantly muddy paws can teach us a thing or two to make our week better.

Check it out, my friend. I have to imagine that if I were a dog and it were raining outside, I’d probably make a billion and two excuses not to go out there. I could get my paws wet. My fur could get all matted. What about the mud?? I don’t want to get in that!

Our dogs don’t do that, though. (Much to my dismay.)

Dogs don’t make excuses when it comes to having a good time and going for it. My dogs KNOW that if they run around in the field and get muddy, they’re probably going to get in trouble. Does that stop them? Nope! They go after the things that excite them, no matter the consequence! I’m not trying to say that you should purposefully do something wrong or break the law, but youย should go after the things you are passionate about. What is holding you back? Are you afraid to try something new? Are you worried about failure? Stop making excuses, get out there, and get your paws dirty! You got this, girlfriend!

Practice being content

This one is my biggest takeaway from my pups, and I bet it might be yours too! I try so hard to practice contentment, but this world begs us to want more and better things. Just take one look at the internet or television. Ads upon ads are constantly in your face pressuring you to buy the newest trends. The people that you follow on social media show you their highlight reel, and you probably end up wishing you could be doing what they’re doing. Am I right?

Biscuit and Dug are content laying on a blanket rolling around with each other. We often walk the exact same trail over and over, and they get just as excited every time. They eat the same food every night and play with the same toys, but it seems like a brand new experience every time. You get what I’m saying, right? They don’t need new and better…they find contentment and happiness in the little things.

Leading a simpler, more content life is something that I’m always striving to do. When I struggle with it, I know that I can take a look at my boys and be reminded to slow down and take it all in. This point might seem to contradict the one above. I mean, how are we supposed to chase our dreams while still being content with where we are now? It’s hard, but we should strive to progress and learn more each day while still being happy with the pace and what we already have!
