How to Overcome Worry & Anxious Feelings

Faith, Self Development
Do you struggle with worry and anxiety? I know that feeling all too well! If you aren't sure where to turn or what to do, this post might be helpful to you! Click through to read!

Hey, lovely! I’m glad that you’re back again! Today, I want to talk a little bit about the “W word”….worry. It’s something that is ever-present in my life, and I know that it’s not what God wants for me! I wanted to chat a little bit about why women of God shouldn’t let worry creep into our lives. Did you know that it’s actually wrong? That it’s a sin?

I’d like to forget that fact, on some days, to be honest. It can be hard to really let go and let God, but it’s what we’re called to do! So let’s do it! Hopefully this post gives you some encouragement and helps with your journey to becoming worry-free. 🙂

Why is worrying wrong?

I have found myself asking this question time and time again, and the truth is simple. It’s a sin to worry. When we worry, it’s like we are placing a limit on God’s abilities. It’s as if we are saying, “God, I’m not sure if you care about me, and I’m not sure if I can trust you to take care of this for me.” I definitely don’t think that is what any of us are saying out loud in the middle of our worry, but that’s what it boils down to!

God wants what is best for us more than we want what is best for us. God wants to bless us more than we want to be blessed. When we think about the things that we want in life, we often have a vague clouded view of what would make us happy and what would be best. The thing is, God sees the ENTIRE picture! He is the one who truly knows what is best for us, what will make us happy, and what is best for his kingdom and his beautiful plan. All we need to do is cling to his understanding and TRUST.

So what can you do about it if you find yourself worrying a lot?

I’ve come up with three things that are really going to help release the hold of worry on your life! You are worth so much more than sitting around all the time with anxious feelings, and I know what that feels like, girl. Check them out below, and get your freedom on!

Focus on What you can control

I am SURE that you have heard this one time and time again, but let’s look at it in a new light. You can’t control much….there I said it. As humans here on this planet, there truly isn’t much that we can control. Stuff happens, people get mean, money goes out the window really quickly, and time flies by way too quickly when you really need to get a lot done.

So what are you to do? Hang on to God’s every word, and realize that he is in complete control. Our God is the one who is able to care for us, help us, and protect us. Getting anxious or worrying about a situation that isn’t truly in your control seems pretty pointless when you have the Holy Father on your side. And he loves you so much, girl.

Get support

You don’t have to go at this whole thing alone. There are sooooo many people who struggle with worry and anxiety! This could be as simple as talking to a trusted friend, joining a group on social media (we have our devotional group here), or finding support in a book that speaks on the topic you’re struggling with! Immersing yourself in positive vibes with a supportive group of people will help so much.

Make a worry prayer plan

I love making these, and the act of making a prayer plan for whatever I’m struggling with really helps to clear my head. It’s as simple as heading to your bible and finding verses on the topic you need help with. It works for worry and anxiousness perfectly! Sometimes, I just write notes next to the verses in my bible, but other times, I make an actual journal entry or get creative with some color. The important part is that you explore God’s Word when you are going through a hard time. Dig deep in the bible, and find out what God has to say about what you’re going through!

Not sure where to start with that? Because making prayer plans has been so great for me, I’ve listed some of my favorite verses about worry, anxiousness, and fear below. Write them down, print them out, or discover your own! Turn to them in times of need, and feel the comfort of the Lord!

1 Chronicles: 12 – “Both riches and honor come from you, and you rule over all. In your hand are power and might, and in your hand it is to make great and give strength to all.”

Psalm 55: 16-17 – “But I call to God, and the Lord will save me. Evening and morning and at noon I utter my complaint and moan, and he hears my voice.”

Isaiah 41: 10 – “fear not, for I am with you; be not dismayed, for I am your God; I will strengthen you, I will help you; I will uphold you with my righteous right hand.”

Matthew 6: 34 – “Therefore, do not be anxious about tomorrow,  for tomorrow will be anxious for itself. Sufficient for the day is its own trouble.”

Matthew 8: 26-27 – ‘And he said to them, “Why are you afraid, O you of little faith?” Then he rose and rebuked the wind and the sea, and there was a great calm. And the men marveled, saying, “What sort of man is this, that even the winds and the sea obey him?”’

Luke 12: 25 – “And which of you by being anxious can add a single hour to the span of his life?”

Luke 12: 29-31 – “And do not seek what you are to eat and what you are to drink, nor be worried. For all the nations of the world seek after these things, and your father knows that you need them. Instead, seek his kingdom and these things will be added to you.”

Philippians 4: 6-7 – “Do not be anxious about anything, but in everything by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known to God. And the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.”

2 Timothy 1: 7 – “for God gave us a spirit not of fear but of power and love and self-control.”
